Case Studies
We deliver more than technology — we deliver transformation. Our case studies highlight engagements across U.S. federal agencies, commercial enterprises, international organizations, and academic institutions. From building enterprise wide automation frameworks and mission critical QA solutions, to developing custom applications, managing complex databases, and producing ISO compliant documentation, our work demonstrates measurable results in efficiency, reliability, and innovation.
We also extend our impact through structured trainings, mentorship programs, and academic teaching, ensuring that knowledge transfer and professional development remain at the core of every engagement. Together, these experiences reflect over two decades of expertise that now power the solutions we provide at BITS.
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) — Multi-Project Engagement Overview
Background
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regulates the nation’s electric, natural gas, and oil infrastructure. Between 2023 and 2025, our team supported FERC in modernizing its quality assurance and deployment practices across a portfolio of more than thirty mission-critical applications. These initiatives addressed challenges of scale, complexity, and time sensitivity, ensuring that FERC could deliver reliable, secure, and timely services to both internal staff and the public.
Challenge
FERC’s application ecosystem required frequent updates, patches, and validations. Manual testing cycles were lengthy and resource-intensive, often stretching into weeks and consuming significant QA capacity. The scale of scenarios and complex validation rules made full manual coverage impractical within release timelines. Daily readiness checks and monthly patch validations added further pressure, creating a need for a more efficient, consistent, and scalable approach to quality assurance.
Solution
Our team introduced a series of automation initiatives designed to streamline testing, expand coverage, and accelerate delivery cycles. These solutions were built to run unattended, integrate seamlessly into release workflows, and provide complete reporting within hours instead of weeks. By combining regression automation, health monitoring, and data-driven validation, FERC gained the ability to execute full test cycles on demand, improve release confidence, and reduce operational strain on QA staff. Each project was tailored to address a specific operational challenge while contributing to an enterprise-wide modernization strategy.

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) — Enterprise-Wide QA and Automation
Background
From 2012 through 2018, our team supported WMATA across safety management systems, SharePoint platforms, security access controls, mobile applications, reporting suites, and enterprise upgrades. The engagement spanned leadership roles in QA strategy, test automation architecture, UAT coordination, and HP Quality Center administration. Work included SMS/Hazard modules, ProWatch, Metroview, Radio Run Tracking, Safety Dashboard, Cognos/SSRS reporting, SharePoint upgrades and patching, disaster recovery/failover readiness, and PeopleSoft HCM validation. Efforts combined comprehensive manual testing with targeted automation to strengthen reliability and accelerate delivery across multiple programs.
Challenge
WMATA’s technology ecosystem encompassed numerous applications and integrations, each with distinct stakeholders and operational needs. Releases required coordination across development, product management, and end-user teams, with rigorous traceability, documentation, and governance. Manual testing was essential for complex workflows, compliance, and user acceptance, while automation was needed to shorten regression cycles, validate large datasets, and support platform upgrades. The challenge was to balance breadth and depth of coverage while maintaining ISO-aligned documentation, clear communication, and repeatable quality gates across projects.
Solution
We structured the engagement into two complementary streams:
Automation case study
We architected modular automation to enrich integration, regression, and system testing across SMS/Hazard, SharePoint-integrated reporting, and enterprise modules. Framework techniques (data-driven, keyword, hybrid, modular) reduced repetitive effort, integrated database validation, and scheduled unattended execution via drivers and task schedulers. Automated quality gates improved release confidence and visibility.

Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) — Engagement Overview: Multi-Project QA and Automation
Background
From 2014 through 2022, our team supported the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) across a wide range of mission-critical applications. These included Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management Systems (RMS), mobile field reporting, AVL tracking, and security systems. The engagement combined both manual and automation testing efforts, with approximately 60% of the work focused on functional, integration, and user acceptance testing, and 40% dedicated to automation frameworks and data-driven validation.
Challenge
MTPD’s technology ecosystem spanned dozens of applications and interfaces, each requiring rigorous validation to ensure operational readiness for law enforcement and transit safety. Manual testing was essential for complex workflows, security, and compliance, while automation was needed to accelerate regression cycles, validate large datasets, and support frequent upgrades. The challenge was to balance both approaches while maintaining ISO-compliant documentation, disaster recovery readiness, and continuous improvement across multiple projects.
Solution
We structured the engagement into two complementary streams:
